FAQs

Everything you wanted to know about air conditioning but were afraid to ask - here you can find answers to many of the common questions we've been asked over the years.

Q1. I see there are lots of brands of equipment. How can I be sure the brand you recommend is reputable?

A1. Unless specifically instructed, we use equipment from reputable suppliers such as Toshiba, Fujitsu, Mitsubishi and Daikin. We use a broad range of suppliers so we can always be sure to match your exact requirements. All of the suppliers offer a minimum 3 year warranty so you can be sure your investment is safe.

Q6. I'm in an office block - I don't think we could access the roof. Can we have air conditioning installed?

A6. We can install air conditioning in almost any physical environment. When you ask us to provide a quotation, we'll investigate your own circumstances and constraints. Leave the problem of design to us - we'll come up with a solution that fits.

Q7. Will I need planning permission?

A7. In most circumstances the answer is no. However you may need special permission if you are in a listed building or the property is owned by a landlord.

Q8. Can I have air conditioning installed at home.

A8. Whilst traditionally, air conditioning in the UK has been primarily marketed at businesses, there is now an increasing range of equipment designed to fit in with the home. We're always happy to install systems in homes or businesses.

Q9. What about the maintenance contract - will this be expensive?

A9. No, not at all. Maintenance is essential but not expensive. Maintenance is charged on a per indoor-unit basis and prices range from as little as £50 (+VAT) per unit per visit. We normally recommend 2 visits per year and we can include the exact cost in your free estimate.

Q10. Is my equipment guaranteed?

A10. All the manufacturers we recommend offer a full three years warranty - this is subject to a maintenance contract being in place from within year 1.

Q11. I'm worried about shoddy workmanship or service. How can I be sure e2 will do a good job.

A11. Our strength is shown in our client portfolio. We can provide references on request and usually from a client with a similar installation to your proposal.

If you have a question or worry that isn't answered on this page then please give us a call. Our friendly staff are always happy to talk to you without any obligation. You can call us on 01623 840 024.

Q2. I've never had air conditioning installed before - won't it be complicated and disruptive to have it installed.

A2. Our engineers are very careful to keep disruption to a minimum. We understand that you might need to work through the installation and they'll be careful to clean as they go and keep the work area safe and secure. Of course with any building work there will be some noise and disruption - if this is a particular concern to you we can quote for working at a weekend or other time that you are closed for business

Q3. Do I need other tradesmen such as electricians or will you do the whole job?

A3. We can provide everything from electrical work, to plumbing and ducting. So you can rest assured that one call to e2 is all that's required.

Q4. How does air conditioning work?

A4. Air conditioning as a concept is reasonably simple. Most installations use two types of unit - these are called split systems. An indoor unit is the part that blows cold air (or hot air as well if you choose the heat pump option) around your room and the outdoor unit is the part that gets rid of the heat to outside. A series of insulated copper pipes connect the two units together, which can be discreetly concealed in your cavity walls or in neat trunking.

The system is charged with a special coolant, which travels around the pipes and through the units and transfers the heat from the inside unit to the outside unit. Regular servicing checks that this system is working efficiently and is operating to its optimum performance.

Because split systems use only a thin connecting pipes carrying the coolant, indoor units can be placed almost anywhere in your premises or home. There's no need to be near an outdoor wall or to have room for unsightly large pipes.

Q5. Is Air Conditioning Expensive to Run?

A5. No. Air conditioning systems have a very high COP (Co-efficient of performance). This means simply that for every kilowatt of energy you put into the system, you get more than a kilowatt of heating or cooling out. This ratio can be from 3:1 and in some cases, especially systems with inverter control, can be up to 6:1. There are also certain tax advantages for fitting energy efficient air conditioning systems.
