Daikin To Offer Collect and Recycle |
|
DAIKIN Air conditioning UK Ltd is offering to collect and recycle old air conditioning units for installers and end users who order replacement equipment from the company.
While, the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive scheduled to come into force this year requires the recycling of all electrical and electronic products, it does not yet apply to fixed AC.
The company will collect end of life air conditioning equipment irrespective of the manufacturer and transport it to an authorised WEEE recycler.
A charge will be made for the service to cover administration, handling, and transport costs. The scheme is limited to Split, Sky Air and VRV systems initially.
Air conditioning installers will be required to dismantle old units and de-gas the system.
Daikin's decision to provide the new service is prompted by its anticipation that the recycling of fixed air conditioning units will be made compulsory by the EU within the next three years.
